Fratello’s Fantasy Pick: Tony Allen

If you’re looking to make a move this week set your sights on Boston Celtics’ guard Tony Allen.  Starting for Paul Pierce, Allen, who himself missed six weeks recovering from ankle surgery, contributed 16 points and four rebounds in 22 minutes during his first start of the season against the Magic on Friday. He followed up with an equally impressive performance on Sunday against the Clippers, earning ten points, ten rebounds, four assists and four steals in 40 minutes.

Coach Doc Rivers confirmed that Pierce, who underwent knee surgery on the 23rd due to an infection, will not return for the next two away games; and even Saturday’s home game is uncertain.  Who knows?  If Allen makes a significant impact, Doc may continue to give him more minutes down the stretch to allow Pierce some needed rest.

Fan Vote: Which Tie Should Mike Wear?

Looks like I’ll be ringing in the New Year with Marv in San Antonio where TNT will televise Thursday’s Spurs vs. Heat matchup.  I picked out a few ties for the broadcast but haven’t made up my mind yet.  Which one should I wear? Cast a vote for the one you like best and that could be the deciding factor!

Czar Star: Chris Paul

Of the top ten players with the highest field goal percentage in the NBA, nine are big men.  Only one is a guard: Hornets’ superstar Chris Paul. How does he do it? Rather than relying on jump shots, Chris has a tremendous ability to invade the paint and finish at the rim.  He’s a master of dribble penetration, breaking down defenses with his uncanny ability to penetrate the lane and set up the open man or himself for the higher percentage shot.

This year Chris has improved his game by sharpening his perimeter shots. He’s shooting 54 percent from the field while averaging 21 points a game and ranks second in the league in assists. And as always, he’s among the leaders in steals.

Superior speed, unselfishness, incredible court vision, and fearlessness – Chris is a coach’s dream. Night in and night out he brings effort and leadership and I expect we’ll see this Czar Star lead his team back up in the standings.

Fratello Telestrator: Chris Paul Off the Pick and Roll

Thanks to a team effort the Hornets got a big win over Melo and the Nuggets in their first season matchup. Chris Paul had a huge 18-point third quarter en route to 30 points and 19 assists, falling just one rebound shy of a triple double. Paul’s success was due in large part to his ability to attack the lane in transition and creates opportunities on offense.
