With leading men Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker logging over three decades of NBA court time, many believed the Spurs’ soles were wearing too thin to make a title run this season. But San Antonio sprinted out of the gates to the fastest start in franchise history, and now they boast the best record in the league at 46-10.

Credit not only Pop’s leadership and championship trio Duncan, Ginobili and Parker’s veteran experience, but also the fresh legs giving an added boost to the Alamo City’s not-so-little engine that still can. Top among the team’s new crop of talent is third-year guard George Hill, who has taken over the role of Spurs’ sixth man, fueling the first unit and anchoring the second unit.

One of the ‘Magnificent Seven‘ hailing from Indianapolis, Indiana, Hill was selected 26th overall by the San Antonio Spurs in the 2008 NBA Draft – the first pro ever drafted from IUPUI. A terrific role player, Hill is adept at both the point and off guard positions. He’s a hardnosed athlete who has the ability to defend the perimeter and to make big shots when he has to.

As the Spurs approach the home stretch, they will rely heavily on contributions from Hill and company so the vets can rest up for the playoffs. Last Saturday Hill started against the Wizards in place of Ginobili and sank four of five 3-pointers in route to 18 points, helping his team to a comfortable 118-94 conquest. He followed up with a 13-point effort against the Nets as San Antonio picked up another win along its rodeo swing prior to the All-Star break.

George Hill does a little bit of everything. He’s averaging 11.1 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game this season, along with the occasional steal and block. Hill is available in roughly half of fantasy leagues. Hill and the Spurs will hunker down for a three-game home stretch this week and welcome Durant and the Thunder to Texas on Wednesday.
