Fratello’s Fantasy Pick: Darren Collison

With Chris Paul potentially sidelined for two months following arthroscopic knee surgery, rookie Darren Collison has huge high tops to fill in the Hornets’ starting lineup. But if Saturday’s stellar performance against the Grizzlies is any indication of what’s in store, Collison will continue to boost his team in their All-Star’s absence – as well as box stats for Fantasy owners.

Another NBA acquisition from the staple crop of top guards produced by UCLA’s backcourt, Collison stepped up his game when he stepped in as a starter – adding 17 points and a career-high 18 assists to help New Orleans defeat Memphis 109-102 in overtime. Equally impressive, he was able to be a key factor in his team’s success on the heels of committing a turnover that ultimately sealed a heartbreaking 108-106 loss to Chicago in overtime the night before.

Collison’s ability to bounce back proves he’s got the heart and backbone to hold his own in the league and contribute vital numbers for the Hornets. He’ll be put to the test four times this week beginning tonight at home against the Suns and two-time MVP Steve Nash.
